Good news: Solar has been WIDELY adopted in IL since the state incentive launched in Jan 2019!!
Bad news: It grew so quickly that all funds for the Renewable Energy Credits have been allocated (commercial Renewable Energy Credits ran out in Feb 202 and residential in Dec 2020). New projects are moving to a waitlist for both sectors and will be addressed on a 1st come, 1st serve basis. The Illinois Solar Energy Association (ISEA) and environmental groups pushed hard for a short-term fix during the January “lame duck session” but unfortunately they ran out of time and the bill never went up for vote.
ISEA is working hard to pass legislation this spring, focusing on the Path to 100 Bill which would increase funding for the industry, continue to create clean energy jobs, expand equity opportunities and increase the state’s Renewable Portfolio Standard to 40% by 2030.
